Announcing The Secret

UPDATE!!! NEW SITE STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION! I'm sorry :(.

Hooray Hooray, we're finally here! Welcome! I am super happy and excited to announce, that from this day forward, I'll be a part of this fantastic group of women! These 5 beauties are all so inspiring, cool, smart, focused and strong role models for women. I am so honored to be a part of it all.
Not only do I get to work with these gorgeous ladies, but we are also in collaboration with Suomen Blogimedia, and together we create the Suomen Blogimedia Fashion group.
Suomen Blogimedia is a 1.5 year old blog community for individual bloggers, now covering 26 blogs.

Last weekend was spent in London, and it was so much fun getting to know all of these girls. All of us flew in from different parts of the world, and arrived at different times on Friday, but since we stayed at the same hotel, we got to catch up a little before it was time to roll up our sleeves and really get to work.

On Saturday it waLs time to get together for some group pictures, so me, AlexaKaisaLindaMarika and Vilma met up with London based, rising star photographer Mikko Puttonen, at this beautiful and cool location. I think the pictures came out really beautiful and powerful, really reflecting what this group is all about. London is a really beautiful city with tons of beautiful buildings, cafes and parks, and I felt like I wanted to stay much longer, to shoot outfit pictures for the entire year ahead ;).

Our trip to London was made possible thanks to a collaboration with Momondo.

It's going to take some time for both me and the blog to settle, so please be patient if you can't find something your looking for in the archives just yet. Everything will be sorted out within a week or so.
I hope you enjoy yourselves here at sofiaruutu.com, and as always I'll be extremely happy and grateful for any kind of feedback, thoughts and comments from you. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to see you again very soon<3.

Last update

Evening ladies and gentlemen(?)! Tonight is the night before the big move, and therefore this will be my very last post here on theootddiary.blogspot.com. I can now also announce that this blog will no longer be in collaboration with Andiata.
I am sorry that I've been so mysterious and secretive about everything lately, and I know that my posts have suffered from everything else that's been going on, but stay tuned, it will get better :)! Starting from tomorrow morning, you'll be able to follow my updates at www.sofiaruutu.com. I am excited but also a bit nervous. The good kind of nervous I think. I hope we'll stay in touch ;), and I really hope to see you at my new "home" very soon.

LOVE

What's up

Good morning! I am now back home from a fun and intensive weekend in London, which I'm going to tell you all about later this week. For those of you who follow me on Instagram, have already seen a few sneak peeks of what's to come ;). On Wednesday the blog will be ready to roll on my new page www.sofiaruutu.com, but there is still a lot to be done before that.
Until then, I'll be busy hanging out with Greta, working and hopefully I'll be able to get some exercise in as well. My body is screaming for some fresh air and sweat after this past weekends traveling.

These pictures are taken by beautiful and talented model/ blogger/ photographer Vilma! It's always an honor and pleasure to be around her, and her way to catch moments in pictures is always as admiring. You can visit her blog here, and here you get to my previous post featuring pictures taken by her.

How to become a relaxed, nice and lovable person?

Haha, that's what I would like to know (and my husband too, one would think :-))!? I feel like ever since I've become a mother I've been a stress boll and I have difficulties to wind down at night or whenever I get the chance (doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I totally over consume coffee !?!) . I am constantly on the go, going somewhere, thinking about the next thing on my to do list. And all the things I haven't done, should be doing and shouldn't be doing, all at once. I know that I come off as a crazy person :-) every now and then, so I've finally decided to take my own advice and do something about it.

All I actually need is a good night of sleep, but since that's not about to happen anytime soon (probably ever), I'll have to try to find other things to help me de-stress. Here are my top ten  best advice on how to calm down and de-stress.

1. Nature. Walking or spending time in nature and breathing fresh air is energizing, grounding and calming all at the same time, and it's also therapeutic.

2. Sauna or hot bath. As a typical and proud finn, I love going to the sauna and luckily we have one in our apartment. It's the best way to end a hectic day before going to bed with my loved ones.

3. Meditation music. I have, and am obsessed with both meditation and yoga music on spotify. I listen to it at home with Greta, while I clean, study, and during my walks. It's calming and invites only nice and lovely thoughts.

4. Yoga! I used to practice hot yoga almost every day a few years back when I lived in Ottawa. I loved it so much I actually wanted to become a yoga teacher (I always want to study and master everything I like, so no surprise there really). I really miss the yoga studio and our fantastic and inspiring teacher in Ottawa. It has never been the same here in Finland, but I should really give it a try again, because yoga makes me feel so good and it's good for both body and mind.

5. Accept failure. I have to really let go and accept that I don't have the time or energy to do everything I'd like to do, or expect out of myself. My home is never perfect and I cook the same thing everyday, but that's just how it's going to be for a while forward so I'd better just accept it.

6. Ask for help. I am a master at this one, because I ask my husband for help constantly. He helps me with my paper work and anything I ask for really, so all I have to do is just keep asking, a lot ;D.

7. Say no without explaining yourself! NO. Period.

8. Go to bed at 10pm every night. I so need it!

9. Shop less- vacate more. Even if it's jus fort a day or two, but a change of scenery and a getaway from daily tasks is so relaxing. Packing and flying with a child might of course not be the most stress free thing, but when all that is taken care of and survived, it's so worth it. Traveling is really an investment in so many ways!

10. Focus. Every day when me and Greta participate in activities I always focus on her only. I don't check my phone or any other devices. This time is usually completely stress free because I don't think about all the other things on my to do list. I am present and I watch her play and enjoy herself. I am in the moment and I love it. I should adapt this way of thinking into other situations too. I really should.

#theootddiarytravels

Brrr, it's been soo cold today, almost like winter! One day I walk around bare legged, and the next I just wanna wear uggs and my warmest down coat and stay in all day. I'm in the middle of a super hectic yet exciting time. I run errands all day long and I'm rather busy, but I am happy to announce that I am going on a little mini trip this upcoming weekend :D! I'll tell you all about that later, because now it's time for me to calm down a bit, watch my guilty pleasure tv show online, and just be close to the coziest little munchkin on this planet!

An old beauty favorite with a side of chocolate

Happy Monday sweethearts! Last week was spent more or less at home because my little girl caught a cold, and let me tell you, I'm so ready to start this week and get out of the house again! Today we're going to the park, for a walk, and I have some important errands to run before this mama is going to the hairdresser! I can't wait! I would probably cry if the appointment got cancelled or something, because I need to both fix my roots and to relax by myself, so badly.

I wanted to share this post with you because I just remembered that I've completely forgotten to mention one of my good old favorites when it comes to makeup (and I know you're all crazy about makeup!). I have used mac's strobe cream on and off for ages, and it's a really fun and flirty product. It's basically a day cream with light reflecting glow, and it's perfect to wear under or mixed with your foundation or just by itself.  It's absolutely perfect for my tired old face ;)!

Now it's time to get this week started, and one thing is for sure, it's gonna be a good one!

In someone else's shoes

Good morning! This is what I wore yesterday. I feel a bit funny looking at these pictures, because I'm wearing my hair almost straight, which is quite rare for me. I am clearly going through some kind of phase at the moment. A phase of pushing myself outside my comfort zone and thinking outside the box. I decide something, and then I just do it, just because I can and because it's good for me to push myself a little bit. Wearing my hair straight might be a teeny tiny thing, but it's something new and that's what it's all about ;D. Taking more risks and jumping into new things is my "new years" resolution, and as I've mentioned earlier, my new year starts in the fall (or any day of the year really) not on new years eve. I'm gonna say yes a lot more and see where that takes me:).

Is there anything you could do to push yourself a little bit outside your comfort zone? I highly recommend everyone to try, even if it's just the most simple thing, because let me tell you, it feels GOOD ;P!

Changes ahead

Hi, I'm so excited! I am usually not the kind of person who likes to take risks, but now there are some new opportunities, chances and changes ahead that I simply couldn't resist. I know it's super annoying (!) to read about things that will "eventually" happen, without being able to know what exactly, but I promise that it will all make sense very soon :). On the first of October my blog will move to a new address www.sofiaruutu.com. Some of you already asked me if the blog will change, and yes it will but only to the better, I promise :). I am so happy I have the best readers in the entire world, and I really hope you continue to follow this blog in the future too. Sometimes change is good, and when it comes to this blog I want to make the best of it, improve, learn and together with you create a place full of inspiration and positivity. I want this blog to be a meeting place for us women to exchange thoughts, tips, ideas, feelings and support. We create this together. <3

Thank you to all of you who came to shop at Andiata last night! It was a pleasure to meet you and get to know you a little bit. Can't even believe that there are so many sweet, kind and smart women reading my updates, and I am so grateful that I finally got to put a face behind some of you. Thank you thank you <3. Today I'm at home with Greta who caught the flu :(, before I'm off for some meetings. Have a great day and I hope you get the chance to enjoy some sunlight.

Health secrets

When it comes to health I believe in individuality. We are all different both inside and on the outside, which is why health means different things for each and one of us. When I practice health coaching, I always get to know my clients before I give them advice and help in areas they feel they need help in.   Health to me means finding balance, which is of course easier said than done, but something to strive for. We can't constantly do well in every area of our lives, so focusing on strengthening weaker areas to find balance is a good way to get started. There are some basic things we all could do to improve our health, so I thought I'd share my 10 most important health boosting advice:

1. Sleep at least 8 hours every night. Force yourself to go to bed on time and you´ll get used to  it. Rest is extremely important for the body and brain, and it is while resting we develop, process, grow and renew things within our bodies.

2. Hydrate! The body needs water for every single function that happens in our bodies to function properly.

3. Try to organize your day and find balance between work, play and rest.

4. Get active! Being physically active is important for both body and mind. Moving your body is like putting money in the bank, an investment in your health for the long run. It is better to try to be on the go all through the day, than to sit all day long and sweat like crazy in the gym for 1 hour per day .

5. De- stress. Knowing how to calm down and re-charge batteries is extremely important. When we get stressed, our bodies starts to shut down in one way or another. Trying not to stress when you are stressed is almost impossible and adds even more stress, which leads to a bad circle that's hard to break.

6. Eat nutritious food. Eat foods that feed your body and makes you feel good inside. Choose clean, fresh and alive foods, filled with the nutrition your body needs and craves. ( A good rule is to buy most of your foods in the vegetable and fruit section of the grocery store).

7. Enjoy some soul food every now and then ;). Enjoy some cake at a party, a piece of chocolate with your coffee, a glass of sparkling to celebrate. But remember to genuinely feel good about it or it's not worth it!

8. Make love! ( Yes, it counts as physical activity ;)! )

9. Strive to be healthy and happy, not skinny.

10.  Be honest to yourself. You know what changes you need to make for a healthier life! Just do it!
